Our legion of listeners really came through for us this week. We kick things off with some great feedback from both new and veteran CopCAST listeners. If that was not good enough, our CopCAST correspondent corps continues to grow and they are providing us with some great fodder for the show

This week a Chicago cop gets the distinction of serving as our keynote story because of her passion for Starbucks coffee and pastries. A Maryland agency has a major “Oh, crap” moment when they raid the mayor’s house and shoot his dogs. Will New York soon be more wired than London? You be the judge. Then there is the Longmont Pornography Age Verification Unit that is not – or something like that. Sound interesting? Well that is just a brief peek into this week’s episode.

So put on your running shoes, plug the earphones into your iPod and join us for another informative episode while you jog around town.

In honor of Scotty, this episode blasts off and boldly goes where no podcast has gone before. Well that may be a little over-dramatic but it is a pretty good show. We did a heck of lot better job than those guys who were supposed to send Scotty’s ashes into space.

We start out with a ten year old crime fighter who dimed out his mom. The OPP are considering starting a used car business with all of their confiscated vehicles. Our sympathies go out to the friends and family of Deputy Juan Escalante of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department who was shot to death outside his home. There will be no more peeing on the doors in Torquay, Devon. A judge has ordered that a Glasgow pensioner stop going to the pub as punishment for killing his wife. We actually have proof that the 80/20 rule applies to law enforcement. And these are just a few of the stories we discuss this week.

So lay back in the hammock, pop the top on a cold one, fire up the iPod and join us for another informative episode.

The CopCAST crew has gotten larger! No, I’m not talking about Mack’s increased waist size after his three week vacation. Morgan Wright, from The Thin Blue Line, has joined crew as a regular host (although some would say “irregular”). We hope that our legion of listeners will have fun listening to the new expanded CopCAST crew.

Believe it or not, we actually received several e-mails from our listeners (happy, happy, happy – joy, joy joy!). This week it was the bad guy who got surprised in Surprise, AZ. Some cops in North Carolina used text messages to turn the table on a juvenile thief. Some German women mistook the real cops for costumed strippers. We also point you to one Website where you can find the deadliest rural highways and another site that is really “Cuil”. Have a business to advertise? Why not sponsor a video camera – just like NASCAR?

If you think this show sounds like someone put a bunch of stories in a blender just to see whether they would blend, you are right! So fire up the tea kettle, brew up some green tea, kick back on the deck, fire up the iPod and enjoy the show.

One more thing – don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

We have put together another fantastic show this week. Morgan Wright of The Thin Blue Line is back in the copilot seat and the Mackster is still enjoying his vacation. Believe it or not, a prisoner actually does make his escape through the duct work this week. He just had to lose a few pounds in preparation for his great escape. Unfortunately, we have more than our fair share of mentally ill people and the murders to go alone with them, including a firefighter who is murdered while trying to extinguish a vehicle fire. A Rhode Island man gets his name in the record book but not for anything that would make his mother proud. Then there is the cable guy who goes for the ride of his life.

I know it is hard to believe but these are just a few of the stories we discuss this week. I want to thank Morgan Wright, from The Thin Blue Line for taking his time to help out with the show for the second week. It looks like we may have to put him on the payroll.

So spread out the checkered table cloth, fire up the grill, put on the burgers, crack open a cold drink, fire up the iPod, lean back and join us for the show. Don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

They say that truth can be stranger than fiction and this week’s show definitely supports that hypothesis. We kick things off with a talkative burglar then we move on to the inmate who decided to drop in on the police chief. Of course, we would be remiss if we did not mention the Arizona man who like to watch sparks or the Dallas dispatcher who told a murder suspect to find his own way to the department if he wanted to surrender. Of course, if you misbehave, we are not going to discipline you while we are driving down the road. You will have to listen to the show to understand what we mean.

We discuss all of these stories and more. What a fantastic week! By the way, can you believe Mack is on vacation again? Morgan Wright, from The Thin Blue Line, did a great job filling in for boat boy.

So cook up a grilled cheese sandwich, pour a cold glass of milk, fire up the iPod, lean back and join us for the show. Don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

This week we kick things off with a discussion of anonymous text messaging, the latest crime reporting technique is several cities. Then an Arizona man “lets his hormones get the best of him” and gets busted in the bedroom of a 15 year old girl he met on-line. We find out that some things that happen in Vegas are just too good to stay there. Do not miss the CopCAST exclusive – old people get scammed. A cop gets an Alabama woman’s goat . . . and dog. Some major software and hardware makers worked in secret for months to create the software “patch” for the internet naming service. You know you are having a bad day when you try to carjack a police car with two cops inside. We even threw in a commercial for the new DataPort 25 hard drive enclosure.  I know it is hard to believe but you get all this and more.

So break out the Oreos, pour a cold glass of milk, fire up the iPod, lean back and join us for the show. Don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

This week we have a “special” guest, Morgan Wright from The Thin Blue Line podcast. Morgan helps us promote the new social network for the law enforcement community, Cops OnLine.

Make sure that you grab your keys and lock your patrol vehicles because it seems like everyone wants to take a cop car for a ride this week. It is hard to believe that people are still falling for the Nigerian check scam but a Washington woman was busted for helping run a fairly significant operation. The Ontario Provincial Police are really cracking down on reckless driving – especially since Mack is back on the road. A French court lightened eBay’s wallet a bit for enabling the sale of fake designer merchandise. Finally, with Morgan’s help, we will toss in a bit of our usual shallow banter times 3 this week.

So grind some coffee beans, crank up the iPod, put your feet up and join us for the show. Don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

Trojan Attack

icon for podpress  CopCAST Episode 77 - Trojan Attack [28:49m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

This week we kicked things off by talking about Trojans. No, not the ancient Greeks or the prophylactics! These were even worse – they were little computer nasties directed at Mac computer. Mack made very weak attempt at joke about a robbery so we jumped over to drunk wheelchair operators. Man this sounds like it was going down hill quickly, doesn’t it?

Well let’s move on to the Mini-Me that took granny’s car on a joy ride to the mall, the slow speed ticket and the 911 green song. Not got your interest yet? Don’t worry we still have the naked guy from Georgia, the photo enforcement issues, more on Tasers and Mars Phoenix Lander Tweets.

If this show sounds like it was all over the place, you pretty much have it nailed. However, we had a great time doing it and we hope you will enjoy listening to it.

So turn up the air conditioner, fire up the iPod, kick back and join us for the show. Oh yea – don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

Attack Python

Mack was here for the show! That makes two weeks in a row – but just barely. Unfortunately, he almost missed the recording session due to a traffic fatality – a single vehicle in the middle of the afternoon. However, super sergeant handled the collision and still made it in time for the show. What a man!

This week we talk about banning PDA’s, electric cars and a smuggler that is really attached to her coke. A Georgia town is turning to speeders to finance the rising cost of gasoline. Canada has had several feet wash up on the beach . . . real feet, in shoes! Oh, did I mention the attack python?  What a week!

We have all this and more! So fire up the iPod, kick back and join us for the show. BTW – don’t forget to stay safe and always wear your vest!

Like an old mongrel dog, the Mackster came wandering back to the podcast.  We want to thank all of the volunteers throughout the world that participated in the on-line search last week.  Rumor has it he just needed some “me time” to get mentally prepared for his spring firearms re-qualification.  Not to worry though because he is back for this week’s show and it is a good one.

We were shocked to find out that many teens are disregarding the new laws that prohibit them from using cell phones while driving – go figure.  Need a little help getting investigative info from an internet service provider?  Just check out the ISP list site. We also discuss an emerging new computer crime, the distribution of ransomware.  From the “I don’t want to get involved department”, we discuss a gruesome hit-and-run video released by Connecticut Police.

The Harley-Davidson Motor Company is planning a number of exciting activities during their 105th Anniversary to celebrate 100 years of Harley-Davidson Police Motorcycles.  Watch the Police Event Section on their website at www.harley-davidson.com for additional details.

Mack likes the creative charges that our feds used to charge a South Carolina trooper that was taped hitting a fleeing subject with his car (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25082070/).

Also do not forget to check out Rich’s new Essential of Effective Supervision course.

We have these stories and more this week!  So take Mack off your BOL list, kick back and join us for the show.  One more thing – stay safe and always wear your vest!
