Frappr Shout Out - The week we want to say hello
to Sergeant Stadenko from Ventura, CA. He has
posted a really classy
picture on the Frappr. It reminded me of the an author's picture on the
back of a paperback novel. Thanks for downloading and listening to the
show, Sarg.

- Training
Opportunities
- Each week we try to
include training
announcements from academies and training organizations. This week we
want to announce that Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy will be
conducting an IPMBA Police Cyclist course during the week of October 15
- 19, 2007.
This course will be instructed by IPMBA certified instructors and is
designed to teach new bicycle patrol officers the basics of riding a
bicycle under patrol condition, basic maintenance, and other
bicycle-related skills. This is a physically demanding course and all
personnel should contact the academy for equipment and conditioning
prerequisites - and start training NOW! The non-member agency tuition
is $150 but if you call me and say you heard about the course on
CopCAST, I will cut that to $75.
Check out the complete training announcement at http://cardinalacademy.org/Announcements/07-12.pdf.
- I also have a couple of announcements from Central
Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, located in Lynchburg, VA. They will
be conducting a course entitled "Basic Investigator" during the week of
October 29-November 2, 2007. This 40 hour course covers a wide variety
of topics that will start a new investigator off on the right foot.
They will also be conducting a course entitled Forensic Documents on
August 2 and 3, 2007. Student that attend this course will gain the
knowledge and skills required to analyze documents for authenticity and
deception and will obtain powerful tools that will be used for
pre-interrogation purposes. Individuals wishing to reserve a slot in
this course must submit a student enrollment form. There will be a
charge of $150.00 per student for this course.
For additional information and registration information on either of
these course, give Ron Staton (434) 455-6188 and make sure you tell him
you heard about the course on CopCAST.
Remember, we welcome training announcements from any criminal
justice training
academy or training organization. Just send the information to
talkback@copcast.net and we will do our best to announce your training
course.

- We
are pleased to be able to assist criminal justices agencies in their
effort to identify and hire the best qualified people.
This week we don't have any new announcements but remember, if your
agency is
looking for qualified people,
just send us a little information about
the job and we will announce it on the show.

User's Tip
This week for the PC User Tip, I want to remind you about some
utilities we have mentioned before. Microsoft offers a bunch of useful
yet unofficial and unsupported utilities called PowerToys. There are a
few that are essential PowerToys for any serious computer user and they
are all free for the taking on the
Microsoft's PowerToys for Windows XP
page.
The first is the ClearType Tuner which dramatically improves font
legibility on some LCD screens.
Next, check out the iImage Resizer that adds a new menu when you
right-click a photo on your PC. Just click Resize Pictures to change an
image's dimensions without opening an editor.
One that we have recommended before is Tweak UI. If you don't already
have Tweak UI, get it. This essential OS tweaking tool offers more
granular control over your privacy settings and operations, and even
over the way you log in to your PC (plus much more). It should be one
of the first things you install on any new computer.
Next, there is the Alt-Tab Replacement which adds previews of each page
when you switch between open applications using "<Alt><Tab>".
Finally, one that I have written about in my blog, at rlsei.com/blog,
is SyncToy. It improves the task of synchronizing files among multiple
machines, especially compared with Windows Briefcase.
So grab your mouse, head over to the PowerToys
page and start downloading.
